Andriy Shevchenko - Prolific AC Milan centre forward is one of Europe's most sought-after footballers. Shevchenko is huge in Italy and Ukraine, bagging over 70 goals for Milan and 19 for his native country. Worryingly, his favorite singer is Freddie Mercury.

Jack Palance - The hoarse voice and chiseled face of Palance was made famous in Hollywood blockbusters Young Guns, Batman and City Slickers. Picking up an Oscar for his role as an ailing cowboy in City Slickers, Palance felt compelled to perform a series of one-armed press ups!
Andy Warhol - The legendary pop artist, was born to Ukrainian-Slovak parents under the name Andrew Warhola. Famous for his pieces depicting Marilyn Monroe, Chairman Mao, Elvis Presley and Campbell's Soup cans, Warhol's work has been re-printed on canvasses, T-shirts and postcards around the globe.
Joseph Conrad - Before settling down in the UK the much-traveled writer Joseph Conrad was born and brought up in the Ukraine. Famous for many novels, it is perhaps his powerful portrayal of the evils of imperialism in Heart of Darkness that Conrad is best known.
Vitali Klytschko - Currently WBC heavyweight boxing champion, Vitali 'Robot' Klytschko pounded the UK's Danny Williams into submission in December 2004. Despite being dubbed 'Dr Ironfist' and looking like the Incredible Hulk, the Ukrainian colossus speaks 4 languages and is a doctor of philosophy.
Ruslana - The beautiful Ruslana is the reason that The Eurovision Song Contest heads to the Ukraine this year, after she won in Istanbul with a stomping performance of her 'Wild Dance' (she broke the stage during rehearsal). Ruslana has become a national icon, and is the official Ukrainian artist of the year.
Dustin Hoffman - Graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1955. Went to Santa Monica City College where he dropped out after a year due to bad grades. But before he did, he took an acting course because he was told that "nobody flunks acting." Also received some training at Los Angeles Conservatory of Music. Decided to go into acting because he did not want to work or go into the service. Trained at The Pasadena Playhouse for two years.
Milla Jovovich - Milla was born in 17 December 1975 in Kiev. She started modeling when she was 9. Her screen debut was in Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991). In December 1997 she married director Luc Besson, but was divorced in 1999. Frequently attends big show business events such as celebrity parties, premieres, openings, fashion shows, and awards shows. Is a fixture in magazine paparazzi sections because of this. Has been on the cover of more than 100 magazines worldwide.
Golda Meir - When the word "greatness" comes to mind, Golda Meir comes immediately to the forefront. Her commitment to her land and to her people was the paragon of human dedication. Her complete involvement, tempered with love, fired by fierce devotion, caused the world to know that she was a true mover of mountains. In 1948, she was part of the People's Council signing the vital proclamation establishing the State of Israel.
Igor Sikorsky - Was born in Kiev, where his father was a professor of psychology at St. Vladimir University. Following his graduation from the Naval Academy at St. Petersburg, he studied in Paris and at the Polytechnic Institute in Kiev. While in Germany in 1908, he heard of the dirigible flights of Count Zeppelin and returned to Paris to study aviation. At the age of 20 he built his first helicopter. He then turned to more conventional planes, and in 1910 his S-2 achieved some success.
Victor Yushchenko - The infamous case of the poisoning of Victor Yushchenko came to light during his campaign for presidency in September 2004. Yushchenko, famed for his good looks, suffered a mysterious illness leaving his face disfigured, making him appear to age 20 years in a matter of weeks. After the Orange Revolution which lead to repeat elections, Yushchenko easily won the Presidency and became the first non-Kremlin supported leader of Ukraine.
